Resolved Question: Would this be a good time to commit suicide?
If you’re rich (top 1%, making over a million dollars per year) or upper-middle class (next 9% or so, doctors, dentists and small business owners making at least a couple hundred thousand a year)…. I guess everything is fine for you. Things have been getting better and better for the rich over the last 35 years, and the upper-middles are still doing OK.
But for the rest of us, the bottom 90%, things have been getting worse and worse, and there is no end in sight. On the contrary, we are told again and again to expect things to stay bad for a long time, and to expect even bigger financial crises / scams to siphon off what little wealth we manage to put away as savings, home equity, pension plans, investments… to just steal that and give it to the billionaires who run Wall Street and Washington.
In other words, the great American middle class and American Dream of upward mobility is dead - they was strangled in the bathtub by corrupt politicians of both parties, puppets of the billionaire elite who own everything - including the media, the churches, and both political parties.
There is no virtually NO chance of any of us improving our lives, let alone joining the ranks of the wealthy. If you weren’t born into a very wealthy, well-connected plutocratic family, sent to elite boarding schools from an early age, then to an Ivy League, etc…. well, you can just about forget it.
You’ll be in debt to banks your entire life - student loans, credit cards, mortgage, car loans, etc. You’ll do your best at a job, only to be summarily tossed into the street when the company goes bankrupt due to mismanagement, or if you get sick, or injured, etc. And after that, good luck finding another job.
So really… is there any hope at all?
We’re all gonna die anyway…. so may as well do so on our own terms?
What do you think?
bigvossm… - really? You think that’s strange? Maybe it’s because Hollywood actors are small potatoes compared to the billionaires who control Wall Street and Washington, and have virtually no power, other than to VOICE THEIR OPINION, which is every American’s right (supposedly), but then they get shouted down by the bullies on Fox and AM hate radio 24 hours a day. Oh, and plus, they’re on the side of the little guy, because they all started out as little guys and remember what it’s like, unlike the hereditary aristocracy that controls this country.
Der Kommissar - cool name - it’s from the ’80s song, right? Maybe you should consider some of the Occupy Movement’s arguments. Nobody wants communism anymore - so you can take that straw-man argument back to Fat Limbaugh and Fox. Besides, those countries do, of course, have a 1% - the Communist party elites who own everything. Kinda like our system, except that our 1% don’t bother joining parties - they just own them.
DontMake & scott b - attitude, huh? And what determines that? Free will? Really? Why would anyone choose to have a bad attitude? Maybe it’s based on very different life experiences? Maybe it’s based on genetics, biology, parenting and other things beyond an individual’s control? Maybe it’s all based on LUCK, or lack of it? But you guys go ahead and pat yourselves on the back, and keep insulting the rest of us. See what happens.
